Perrie Edwards is reportedly using the attention surrounding her breakup as a platform to further her career.

The 22-year-old singer was allegedly dumped by her former fiancé Zayn Malik via text and since the news broke earlier this month she's been keeping herself distracted with her group Little Mix. She's reassured fans she's doing OK thanks to the support of her bandmates Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Jade Thirlwall and Jesy Nelson, and it seems the star has an optimistic new outlook.

"Perrie's determined to turn this into something positive - she wants to use this attention as a platform to further her career," an insider told British magazine Closer. "She refuses to be the victim, so she's going all-out to command attention."

Perrie and Zayn began dating in 2012 and the blonde beauty showed off her engagement ring the following summer. It was thought they'd be walking down the aisle this year, so it came as a shock when they split.

This year has been a time of change for Zayn; the musician quit One Direction in March to be a "normal 22-year-old", but has since hit the studio to record new music. It seems the single life has already settled in for him too.

"Zayn is in LA recording his solo album and he's lapping up life as a bachelor. He's already swapped numbers with a string of girls," the source added.

But it's not been all positive for Zayn as he's also had a couple of public spats since departing the hit boyband. One was with Naughty Boy, who he labelled a "fat joke" after a video was leaked online. Most recently Zayn got into a war of words with Calvin Harris over the DJ's girlfriend Taylor Swift.
