Twitter Names Jack Dorsey As Permanent CEO

Jack Dorsey can drop the 'interim' CEO title that was attached to his name the past three months.

Now, he's just CEO. Dorsey took to his Twitter account Monday morning to announce that he'll serve as the permanent CEO of Twitter and Square.

"I've been CEO of both companies for over 3 months now. I have the smartest, strongest, and most determined leaders in the world on my teams," Dorsey said in a series of tweets that followed. "My focus is to build teams that move fast, and learn faster. In the past 3 months we have increased our speed and urgency at both companies."

He added that Twitter remains "the most powerful communications tool of our time" because "it shows everything the world is saying rn...10-15 minutes before anything else."

The news of Dorsey shedding the interim tag might be a surprise to some after Twitter's board had originally stated that it was looking for someone to take on the role full time instead of splitting duties, the way Dorsey was with Twitter and Square.

As part of Dorsey's announcement, Twitter revenue chief Adam Bain was also appointed Chief Operating Officer of the company.

Before delving into the announcement more via a Twitter investor call slated for later Monday morning, Dorsey closed his succession of tweets adding: "Our work forward is to make Twitter easy to understand by anyone in the world, and give more utility to the people who love to use it daily!"
