    External Tracker Referrals

Here you are able to gain access to Orpheus by verifying that you are a member of another private tracker that we trust.

    The process is as follows:

Choose a tracker from the list that you're a member of.
Orpheus will generate a string of characters that you will place in the body of your profile at the tracker of your choice.
Paste the character string anywhere in the body of your profile and save it.
Enter your username and Orpheus will verify your membership and issue an invite code to you.
    Join Orpheus!

    Step :2

    Step 2: Paste Your Code

Copy and paste the code below into the profile of your (tracker) account. It can go anywhere in your profile body (commonly known as "Profile info 1") as long as it is in one piece.

    *********************************************

Enter the user id you use at (tracker) exactly as it appears on the site. This is critical in verifying your account.

    Recover Your Account

    Membership recovery

Some people are in the recovered backup, some are not. If you had registered before 2017-06-18, you are in. You will need to supply only your username and email or announce key.

If you signed up afterwards, or you have lost (or never received) your invite email, things are a little more complicated. We will consider any proof you may be able to supply, such as the complete signup email, or screenshots of your profile page. Staff has the final say in whether the proof is sufficient.

    Some Small updates for y'all

It has been a few days since our official launch, and so far, things are going pretty smoothly. The coming days we will be actively updating you on recent developments, and this post is the first of these updates!

    Trackerstatus

We are very happy to announce that Orpheus is now listed on trackerstatus.info, thanks to Vicey's hard work. The status site can be found on both

    https://ops.trackerstatus.info

    and

    http://status.orpheus.network

    Tracker Issues

As you might have read in the blog, there were some minor issues with the tracker yesterday. After fixing these, peer numbers increased and created another bottleneck earlier today. This problem has been resolved, but don't be surprised if you encounter additional timeouts or "red torrents" as we tune the layers to handle the increase in activity. If that happens, you are encouraged to say so in #orpheus.

    VPN rules

The new administration values user security strongly, and therefore the old Apollo VPN rules have been relaxed to allow more VPN usage. From this point onward, all paid VPNs and proxies are allowed for use on the site. This includes VPNs that come with seedboxes. It does not matter if the IP is static or dynamic or if it's unique to you or shared. As long as you are paying for it, it is allowed. Send a StaffPM if you are unsure if your VPN/proxy is covered by this rule. Golden Rule 5.1 has been updated to reflect this change.

If you use a free VPN or proxy service, you become the product. It is very likely that the company offering this free service is collecting data about you, and this is bad for both your and the site's security. Not using any free proxies and VPNs is a solid advice in general, not just in regard to Orpheus.

    Torrent Ownership and Apollo Stats

Some people reported problems with ghost last.fm associations. This was due to the fact that old APL table was imported as-is by mistake. The table was truncated, so if you have already set your last.fm user on Orpheus, you will have to do it again. This feature is brought to you through the courtesy of Spine, forum eraser.

The first batch of torrents has been reparented to the correct owners (around 1400 users). Don't despair if you don't see yours yet. When we say that all of the torrents have been moved over to the correct owners and still you don't have your torrents, then despair is allowed.

Buffer updates (recrediting you with Upload stats) will begin tomorrow. For people who joined after the backup (and even those before), we will be able to credit you with the appropriate amount of buffer for your final userclass... if you regularly connected to #APOLLO on IRC. We have logs that recorded joins and parts, and the userclass was part of the hostmask for each user.

Just one more reason to join in on the fun in IRC, see you there.

    Reseed requests

Please don't use the Request Reseed link. Don't. Just... Don't. If the torrent is owned by Spine with 0 seeders, then the uploader or seedershave not yet joined. And Spine will be even grumpier.

That's all for now. Please don't forget to post any issues in the Bugs forums, we are doing our very best to resolve everything ASAP.

    Orpheus.network News - Important info

Where's my buffer and why isn't it bigger?

An update on the state of buffer and torrent ownership.

    Torrent Reassignment
At the present time, around 200,000 torrents have been reassigned to 4,254 users who joined through recovery. Not everyone has been handled, but these are the easy cases (and more people continue to join). This will continue in the coming days and weeks.

    Buffer Adjustment
No download stats will be transferred from the previous site: your download stats reflect what you have downloaded from Orpheus, and will continue to do so.

Extra upload stats will be transferred according to the following Athena-Spine algorithm:

The calculations below are in addition to any upload buffer you have already earned on Orpheus. If you already have 10GiB uploaded, you will have 10+x afterwards. The description below explains how to determine x.

    Torrent uploads
If you uploaded 0 torrents, 0 buffer is awarded (but see below).

From 1 to 4 torrents, 5GiB per torrent is given. (So that you need to upload 1 more torrent and earn 5GiB of upload to reach PowerUser class).

From 5 to 49 torrents, 25GiB for the first 5 torrents and 500MiB per torrent for the remaing torrents. (You need to upload 1 more torrent and 500MiB upload to reach Elite class).

From 50 to 499 torrents, 100GiB for the first 50 torrents and 800MiB per torrent for the remaining torrents. (You need to upload 1 more torrent and 800MiB to reach TM class).

For 500 torrents or more, 500GiB for the first 500 torrents and 500MiB for each additional torrent. You will be promoted to the appropriate class over TM depending on how many distinct torrent groups and perfect FLACs you have uploaded.

    IRC Presence
If you joined after the backup date and connected to the IRC server, your userclass was recorded in your hostmask. Your final userclass will be used to round up to reach the equivalent userclass (10GiB for Member, 25GiB for Poweruser, all the way to 500GiB for TM+.)

This will also have an effect on people who were promoted after the backup date.

For instance, If you uploaded 50 torrents in the backup (which would make you Elite), but have TM as a recorded hostmask in IRC, your additional buffer will be bumped up to 500GiB overriding the previous calculation based on torrents uploaded. It is up to you to upload the missing torrents to regain TM+ status.

This is one more reason why you should hop onto IRC and join in the fun. We have games!

    Download and Request Activity
If you downloaded from Apollo, or made requests, this means that you were an active member.

The total of your Download stats and Request bounties and votes are added together and the result is halved. This result is added to the figure above.

    The Love Factor
Because we love you, what ever number comes out of the above formulae is multiplied by 1.5 (i.e. a straight 50% increase).

You will receive a PM containing the details of the calculation that was applied in your case. This requires new code which is currently being tested.

And remember, once you receive your buffer, don't hoard it... spend it. You never know what will happen tomorrow.

    Orpheus News - User Classes

We have temporarily decreased the time requirement for all user classes to 1 week. This means that many of you will now have the same user class as you did on APL at the time of the backup.

To Elites and above, please use your editing permissions to clean up the torrent database, there is a lot of work to be done.

    Golden Rule 5.1:

Do not browse Orpheus using any free proxy or VPN service.

You may browse the site through a VPN/proxy only if you have paid for this service. This includes (for example) self-hosted VPNs or proxies, services like NordVPN and VPNs or proxies that come with a seedbox. When in doubt, please send a Staff PM. The use of Tor for browsing the site is not allowed.

    Orpheus.network News - Buffer update

    Hello all,

as many have pointed out, there was a problem with reassigning upload buffer to members who held accounts on the previous site. The fault is mine alone; I rushed the job to ensure that people received the calculated value as fast as possible (to allow people to level up and be able to get things done once more, like editing torrents), and there was a mistake.

    Simply put, the error arose from computing a + b * c instead of (a + b) * c. For instance, 5 + 4 * 3 = 17, but (5 + 4) * 3 = 60. That ended up hidden in plain sight in a 10-line db update statement.

In the above equation, a = amount given based on download and request vote/bounty activity, b = upload activity and c is the famous 50% upscale.

In retrospect, the decision to be fully transparent and show what the calculations were was the right one, at least people were able to spot the mistake. The error has just been redressed (50% more love on previous downloading and request activity), however, there will be no PM set out. To be honest I can't be fucked, you'll just have to trust me that it's correct. Musaeus and Antithetos reviewed the problem and the solution and we are confident that the result is now correct.

If you still think you didn't receive enough, you either didn't upload enough, or download enough, on the previous site.

I shall now be concentrating my efforts to go through the recovery table and reconnect new users to their old identity and bring them back their torrents. And then, hopefully, we can truly bury that which went before, once and for all.

Looking to the future, stay tuned: we have some great end of year celebrations lined up.

    —— Spine

Orpheus News - The Development Plan of Orpheus

    Development Pipeline

With Orpheus being off the ground and running smoothly, we look forward to where we may bring the site with new features and bugfixes. While we're fortunate to have several developers on staff (and even moderators who contribute CSS because they're weird), making sure we develop a pipeline for getting new developers is important to us. To accomplish this, we've modified how we operate with regards to what we open-source. To begin with, we're more fully committing ourselves to the mission we had at Apollo, which is to open-source all parts of our sites as they are ready for public consumption, and to make it a priority to maintain this commitment. All of this code can be found on our publicly accessible GitHub organization. Additionally, in a greater commitment of establishing what it is we hope to accomplish in these projects, we're committed that for all confirmed bugs and approved suggestions, we will make an issue within the respective GitHub repository. Through this, we hope to make it easier for people to contribute more readily, whether it's just fixing one particular bug that irks them, or by contributing many fixes and improvements with the interest of joining the staff here at Orpheus. Additionally, in the coming weeks, we plan to put out a higher level roadmap of where we hope to take the various pieces that make up Orpheus in the years to follow. If you'd like to discuss developing for any of the components for Orpheus (or just code in general), feel free to join the #develop channel on IRC. Please follow the Changelog thread to see implemented changes and fixes.

    Beta Team

We would like to open up applications to our Beta Team. While this team unfortunately never got off the ground at Apollo, we now have a more clear vision of their role and ability to allow them to better test features before they're live for the main site. If you're interested in this, feel free to inquire on apply.php.

    Browser Support

To what might be the dismay of handful of people who use older browsers (one person claims to browse this site using IE6!), we will not be planning for or offering continued backwards support of older browsers. We plan to start incorporating modern features of web development to improve the site and simplify the coding. This includes things like flexboxes, query selectors, let declarations, dropping jQuery, etc. which allows for a smaller, cleaner codebase. In doing this, we understand that browsers that are 4+ years old may experience breakage in using the site, and while we apologize in advance for this, in the end, it's in your best interest to upgrade your browsers and allow us to better serve you with nicer code and fancier features.

    Password Length

We currently utilize the bcrypt algorithm to handle hashing of passwords. While this is a wonderfully strong algorithm, it unfortunately limits the maximum length of passwords to 72 characters (any additional characters are disregarded). We will be releasing a patch to our usage on Sunday, November 18th at 12:00 GMT where we will lift this requirement to allow for longer passwords. For anyone using passwords longer than 72 characters, we advise you to change your password to be at most 72 characters before then to ensure you're able to login after the change. If you are able unable to login following this change, you will need to follow the "Forgotten Password" box on the login page or come to #help on our IRC.

Orpheus.network News - Some more updates

    Some more updates!

Greetings y'all! Here be a few minor announcements to peruse as we continue to become acquainted with Orpheus and each other.

    LOG RE-SCORING

As of yesterday, our team of moderators lead by i********* and B***** (who developed a very handy tool, aptly named Loggy, to assist in this venture) have been hard at work pruning those pesky un-scored logs. This tedious process will continue over the next few days and should culminate with our logchecker being 100% functional going forward. Please keep all of your old Apollo torrents seeded in your client, as the more seeded torrents we have the more we will be able to re-score. As of yesterday afternoon, we had a whopping 80,000 seeded torrents that needed re-scoring.

    MAINTENANCE

We will be conducting some maintenance to improve performance and stability of both the site and the tracker. This maintenance will happen on Wednesday in the early afternoon. (UTC) Although we will try to limit it to a minimum, there will be some downtime, approximately two hours at most. The IRC network will say up during this maintenance.

After this maintenance, you might need to log in again.

    PERSONAL FREELEECH MUCH?

As many of you may have noticed, beginning at 02.15 UTC yesterday several torrents and torrent groups were suddenly branded as beingPersonal Freeleech. Why for, you ask? Simple. A patch intended to optimize the re-scoring process was introduced to the API at this time and was responsible for producing this unintended side-effect. Said bug was quickly ameliorated at 09.30 UTC. As stated here, no torrents were actually being marked by the system as freeleech, therefore a download of any of these releases would have cost the user buffer. Not to worry, however, as all buffer spent during this short window will be credited back to those who were diligent enough to snag one of these torrents during that time. We apologize for the confusion and extend thanks to those users who brought this issue to our attention.

As a short reminder: if something looks too good to be true, then it probably is.
Any and all future freeleech events will be attached to an announcement much like this one, as per usual.

    TRUMPING

Now that the initial grace period has passed, all users are free to upload and trump any old Apollo torrents that are still left unseeded. Obviously, standard upload/trumping rules apply (aka, a V0 rip does not replace an unseeded FLAC rip of the same release). Please be courteous to one another during this transition and during this time, as we have a lot of rebuilding to do yet! If an unseeded CD rip in FLAC has an unscored log (which it has, since we cannot score it if we cannot download the log file) it can be trumped by any FLAC torrent with log, which does not need to be 100%.

A quick note on differentiating recently unseeded Orpheus uploads vs old Apollo torrents: if you click any given torrent, the information that follows below will show an upload date. Torrents dated as being uploaded over a year ago are from Apollo and as such can be trumped if they have yet to be seeded. For all recently christened OPS torrents, please follow standard procedure and trump rules seenhere.

Also, since the grace period has ended, everyone is now allowed to upload APL torrents that were uploaded past the backup date, not just the original uploaders. However, if you plan to upload torrents you have downloaded, it's good to check the quality of these torrents prior to uploading. You are responsible for the quality of what you upload, so if you happen to upload a bad transcode or an edited log, you will receive the warning.

    Lets get ripping, boys!

Orpheus News - Sweet, Sweet Updates

    Sweet, Sweet Updates
It's been about a week since our last update, so here is a new one for y'all!

    Log re-scoring
Thanks to our very dedicated team of moderators and developers, we have successfully re-scored nearly all seeded torrents with a log file. There are still a few torrents that have connectivity issues or are unseeded, which means that we are not able to re-score these at the moment. However, we will continue to work on this, to get even more logs re-scored in the future.

    Toolboxes
Thanks to the hard work by ****, Orpheus now has his own toolboxes, for both Windows and Mac. These torrents will permanently be marked as Neutral Leech, which means that you can download them without affecting your ratio.

The toolboxes contain software that may be useful to you as a member of this site. For example, they contain audio codecs, tools for analyzing the quality of audio files, IRC clients, CD ripping programs and programs that can be used for transcoding. For a full list of programs, please check the torrent description.

The toolboxes can be found here (Windows) and here (MacOS)

    Staff Changes
As you might have seen on the staff page, there have been some changes in the past weeks. Unfortunately, Batwings had to resign from their position as moderator due to real-life obligations. We wish them the very best of luck in their future endeavors.

We have also recruited a new staff member that some of you might remember from the old Apollo days. We are very happy to announce that Merlin is back on staff once again. **** is an excellent moderator and a very good addition to this team.

    Bonus Points
Without you, our members, a site like Orpheus would be worthless. Therefore, we are very grateful for your continuous efforts and loyalty to the site. When we started this project, we knew it wasn't going to be easy, since we lost a substantial part of our user base and torrents. At the moment of writing this, we already have slightly under 10.000 members, and over a million seeders. With these million seeders, we have already reseeded about 70% of all Flac torrents, but this number is still increasing quite rapidly.

To express our gratitude to you, we will be giving out 10.000 Bonus Points to each user of the site. We encourage you to use these Bonus Points to buy FL tokens and download some music that you like. We will be giving out more BP in the near future, so keep your eyes peeled!

    Torrent re-assignment and APL Buffer
As some of you might have read on the forums, some members have not yet received their (reduced) APL buffer and torrents back. This is because some recovery cases are very complicated and cannot be processed automatically. Members that used the recovery page to sign up but still don't have their buffer and torrents, should make a post in this thread. Please read the OP carefully before making a post.

    Invites
Besides Bonus Points, we also want to give all of you some invites as a reward for the hard work you have done. All Users will receive one invite, Members will receive 2, and Power Users and above will receive 3.

Please keep our invite rules in mind when sending invites.
    Golden Rule 2.2 wrote:
Do not trade, sell, publicly give away, or publicly offer invites.
Only invite people you know and trust. Do not offer invites via other trackers, forums, social media, or other public locations. Responding to public invite requests is prohibited. Exception: Staff-designated recruiters may offer invites in approved locations.

If we find you offering or selling invites in public, including invite sites such as TI.org, both you and your entire invite tree will be banned permanently, without any chance of appeal.

All invites will expire at the end of this year.

That's all for now, we hope you enjoy the Bonus Points and the wonderful community that is starting to take shape.

    Love,
    ~OPS Staff

    Orpheus.network News - Another update

    Introducing: Ultimate Torrent Master

    "Another update? Woah..."

    -Anonymous user

Greetings once again! We love keeping y'all apprised on the goings on here and plan to do so quite regularly. Go big or go home, as they say.

We are very much in this for the ultra long-haul and want to continue expanding on several features and ideas that both prolong our existence as well as lend credence to the idea that Orpheus is an excellent one-stop-shop for all things music. Thinking ahead, we are aware that many of our users, especially our biggest contributors, can often feel a sense of hitting a brick wall in terms of adding more content to the site.

So, in an effort to conserve that momentum, we offer an incredible challenge.

Introducing the brand new, absolutely insane, can't-believe-this-is-a-thing, "woah...they done did a thing", user class:

    Ultimate Torrent Master

These folks are the creme de la creme of any tracker; the users that are capable of giving a sysop that warm, fuzzy feeling. The elite among the elite... the ultimate.

The big question: how does one go about attaining such a prestigious rank? Well... it certainly won't be easy. "Lets get ripping boys" has a whole new meaning now. Here are the criteria:

    -
2TB of upload - Only upload gained via OPS; your transferred APL stats will not be included
    -
2000 perfect FLACS - WEB uploads do not apply; only OPS uploads will be counted
    -
Only 100% logs for CD uploads
    -
All other media: only 24bit rips will be counted - If you upload multiple 24bit rips for any given release, only one will be counted regardless of differing sample rates

Staff are still working out the benefits inherent in reaching UTM, but trust they will be worthy of such a title. Perhaps you have a suggestion? Please let us know in the comments.

...and that is definitely not all. There is more to come in the days, weeks and months ahead as our staff, users and site continue to evolve. The future has never looked better nor been more exciting. Please stay tuned!

    ~ OPS Staff

As we are continuing to improve our site's infrastructure and stability, there will be a scheduled maintenance on the 26th of December. During this maintenance, the site and tracker will be down for approximately two hours. The IRC network will stay up the entire time, so feel free to pass by there!

    Snatch Statistics
As some of you may have noticed already, we have removed the snatch statistics from the old Apollo site. This means that the 'Snatched' numbers on the torrent page now reflect snatches from only the Orpheus site. (For example: If 10 people snatched a torrent during the Apollo days, and 5 people snatched it on the new Orpheus site, there will now be 5 snatches on the torrent, instead of 15)

    Christmas Dinner Contest
Christmas would be boring without insane amounts of amazing food. That's why we decided to make it a contest. When you (or one of your family members/friends) have made a tasty Christmas dinner, make sure to share it with us!

To participate in the contest, make a picture of your Christmas (or new year's) dinner, and post it in this thread. If you decide to make a submission, make sure to read the rules in the OP. If your post does not meet the rules, it will be deleted.

Anyone participating in the challenge will receive 25.000 Bonus Points as an extra gift from Santa. In addition to that, there will be bigger prizes for the top 3 Christmas dinners. (Which will be chosen by Staff)

    • The winner will receive 50.000 Bonus Points (in addition to the other 25.000) as well as a Freeleech pick.
    • The runner up will receive 30.000 Bonus Points (again, in addition to the 25.000 for participating) and a Freeleech pick.
    • #3 will receive 10.000 Bonus points, and they will also receive a Freeleech pick.

    Staff Picks!
To conclude our Christmas celebration, we have some Freeleech picks for you. Take this opportunity to increase your buffer a bit, and above all, discover some nice music!

    Orpheus.network News - Email Server

As some of you might have noticed, the email server was down for the last couple of days. Since Spine and I were both very busy because of the holidays, we did not have enough time to fix it as quickly as we usually would.

The email server is back in operation and most emails that would have been sent during the downtime have been sent about an hour ago.

A small percentage of emails unfortunately got lost. If your invitee did not receive their invite, either manually send the invite link that's on the invite page, or delete the existing invite and send it again.

If one of your invitees has not received their confirmation email due to the downtime, please send a StaffPM and staff will enable the account manually.

Apologies for the inconvenience, and enjoy the rest of your holidays
