AsianDVDClub News - Site currently down

"This was posted in ADC's Discord"

Site is currently down. This is an issue at the host level and there's no ETA as to when it will be resolved. Please keep in mind that this particular host is slow at solving customer issues.

AsianDVDClub News - About the down

Update: So it's a good news, bad news situation.
The good news is that the server is still up, it's just not externally reachable right now. Not a hardware failure or anything like that.
The bad news is that it was intentional. Evidently auto-payment failed due to insufficient funds. The host claims they sent an email the day before they disconnected the network adapter (not much of a warning there...), but it was not received so I wasn't aware of the problem in advance.
They can also be slow to respond to tickets and they do not respond after hours or on weekends unless you pay for their managed support package. Which ADC doesn't have because it's rather expensive and we rarely need them to do anything. That's why it took so long to get to the bottom of things.

    AsianDVDClub News - Current situation

    From the site's main page:

    AsianDVDClub is currently down

You've undoubtedly noticed that ADC has been down for the last 2 weeks. The good news is the host assures me that our server is still up, so it wasn't a hardware failure, takedown, database crash, or anything along those lines.

So what did happen? Well that's the bad news. In short, we have not received enough in donations recently to cover the bills and our host cut off access to our server until the account is paid in full. They claim to have sent an email warning about the impending disconnect but nothing of that sort was received so I wasn't notified of the problem in advance and we weren't able to take any action before ADC went offline. It took some time to get to the bottom of the matter due to their rather limited support hours (for non-managed accounts) and our conflicting schedules. A combination of these and some other real-life factors significantly delayed putting up a public announcement like this.

To get to the heart of the matter, some months ADC receives enough in donations to cover the bills and has extra left over for a rainy day fund. But unfortunately that's not the case for all months and if there's a period with more bad months than good, the rainy day fund can run dry and there may not be enough in the account to cover the bills. There have been a couple of times in the past where this happened and I covered the shortage but I'm not able to do that at this time. One additional wrinkle this time is that because things have gotten to this point we owe the original amount plus a late fee and a disconnect penalty. Although we don't disclose ADC's exact costs out of somewhat paranoid reasons, suffice to say our hosting is not cheap but it's also much less than many other private trackers, especially large trackers.

If you are currently an ADC member and you want to help get ADC back online by donating through PayPal, you can do so by joining our IRC channel (#asiandvdclub @ Rizon) and sending a PM to ADC's SysOp (if you don't know who that is, ask in the channel) to get the details for the donation account where you can send money. Please wait for a response before sending any donations so you can be sure the money will go to the correct account. Donating through Bitcoin is not an option at this time since the host insists on being paid via either PayPal or credit card, however BTC donations will be possible again in the future after ADC is back online.

With any luck ADC will be back online soon. Once the server is re-connected, I'll perform some checks to make sure everything is working as it should and as long as everything checks out ADC will be available again shortly afterwards. This page will be manually updated as needed.

Bottom line: It's all about the donation money again.

    AsianDVDClub News - Unofficial news

Unofficial Update: I do believe the SysOp for ADC has retired. I would like to thank him for keeping ADC alive as long as he did. It has been fun torrenting at ADC and I will miss it and the friends I made there. My apologies to all those new Invitees that joined ADC not too long ago. Sorry your time here was so short. Thanks to the other members of Staff for keepingADC going, especially during the last several years. Thanks to all the ADC members: uploaders, downloaders and forum rats. At this point, this channel is free for members to talk together about other matters such as other torrent sites to flee to. I will stay logged into the ADC Channel for a while in case I am needed for some unknown reason. This update is unofficial since a senior staff member did not make it and I am a low ranking member of staff.

    Reddit Post - IRC Update

Official Update: KAKERU made his offer and SysOp did not reply. I believe SysOp has closed down ADC. Do not be too harsh with his actions. I personally believe he gave us two extra years to torrent together before shutting ADC down. Thanks to Senior Moderator Mastameta for running the Invite Program and for fixing some security problems as best he could. Thanks to miamaria for getting <animay> the TotW back up and running weekly. Thanks also to the other Torrent Moderators who, like myself, tried to make sure the uploads conformed to currentADC standards and policies. And finally, thanks to all our members who were with us over the years. I am calling this update official in that I believe SysOp has shut down ADC and he may very well not make an official announcement himself.

    AsianDVDClub is currently down
If you see this message you've undoubtedly noticed that ADC has been down for a while. The downtime has been due to an unannounced policy change at our host, slow communication, bad real life timing, and (most significantly) a personal illness. Though the initial cause was a lack of funds. The good news is the host assures me that our server is still up, so it wasn't a hardware failure, takedown, database crash, or anything else along those lines. In the days after the downtime began I was in contact with the host and let them know that the bill would be paid, so our server is still up (but not externally accessible) even after all this time.

The policy change at our host was, in effect, requiring that bills be paid a ways in advance of what had historically been their due date. After some back-and-forth with the host it turns out that they cut off the network access for our server because the server bill had not been paid by this other date, and from what they said during the days after the downtime began this is because some months ago we were late/behind on payment so they want to make sure we pay our bills. However this policy change had not been effectively communicated, thus we had no idea that not only was there no longer a grace period to pay a bill but they need to be paid early to ensure no loss of service. Unfortunately this led to ADC going down at what turned out to be a very inopportune time.

Some of you have seen what the initial plan was during the downtime or at least some form of that plan: get ADC back online now and then move to a new host in the near future when possible. That plan has not really changed, though the move to a new host may be delayed for a while longer than initially planned. Please wait for a response - which may take a while - before sending any donations so you can be sure the money will go to the correct account.

With any luck ADC will be back online soon. Once the server is re-connected, I'll perform some checks to make sure everything is still working as it should and, as long as everything checks out, ADC will be available again shortly afterwards. This page will be manually updated as needed.
